What I did: Collaborated with artist and organizer Drew Johnson to bring his Who’s That Girl? concept to life — a multidisciplinary project funded by Black Music City that honored the legacy and overlooked influence of Philadelphia’s Eve and Andrea Vallé. As Creative Lead and Visual Designer, I was entrusted with shaping the project’s full visual identity. I named the piece, developed the editorial format and vinyl-inspired presentation, photographed Andrea Vallé, and designed the zine as a record-style print experience housed in a plastic sleeve, complete with a price tag and parental advisory sticker — both a design homage and a cultural reclamation.
Why it mattered: This project challenged the idea that artists must be widely known to be deeply respected. By celebrating two Black women songwriters often excluded from mainstream narratives, we helped shift the spotlight back where it belongs. Our team — an all-Black, majority-women production crew — rooted this tribute in care, collaboration, and cultural pride. Who’s That Girl? asked the question — She’s that girl answered it.
